Originally from Ohio, John is a graduate of The College of Wooster and also studied at the Institute of European Studies in Vienna, Austria. Before real estate, he built a distinguished career in the tennis industry by earning national recognition for his work training coaches, innovative programming, and leadership roles with the United States Tennis Association (USTA) which first brought him to Amelia Island's Ritz-Carlton for USTA National Meetings in 1992.

His tennis work took him from Hilton Head Island to Virginia, where he directed tennis programs at both public facilities and a country club while also owning an award-winning professional women's tennis tournament. In 1999, John was honored with the PTR International Master Tennis Professional Lifetime Achievement Award, an elite designation held by only 67 of 16,500 coaches across more than 130 countries.
